Spectra laser peel (sometimes referred to as the ‘Hollywood laser peel’ in the US) is a superficial laser peel treatment with no down time. Unlike deeper laser resurfacing treatments, you are able to apply makeup straight after treatment and carry on with your normal routine. Spectra laser peel can reduce all the seven signs of skin ageing: dark spots, sagging skin, dull skin, lines and wrinkles, skin dryness, uneven skin tone and open pores. It’s also effective in treating mild to moderate acne and acne scars.

How does it work?
The treatment works by harnessing the laser’s energy to remove the very top layer of skin and stimulate the skin’s natural healing response, kick-starting the production of collagen and elastin. The result of a Spectra Laser Peel is clearer, smoother, younger-looking skin.
What is the Spectra laser peel treatment process?
A layer of a special carbon liquid will be applied and left on the skin for about 10 minutes so that it soaks through the upper layer of skin and enters the pores. This is followed by a three-step process:
- Firstly the laser will be used on a low-energy setting. This heats up the carbon particles in the skin and pores to activate the skin’s natural healing process.
- The second step involves using the laser on a mode known as the ‘Q-switched’ mode, with a low energy setting. This will remove the upper layer of the skin.
- The third step involves the laser being used at the Q-switched mode again, but with a slightly higher energy setting. This will target areas of pigmentation by shocking the melanocytes cells so that they stop producing melanin (pigment).

What is the spectra laser peel aftercare?
Your skin may feel sensitive after treatment, during your appointment we will advice you of certain products you should avoid using after. You should also ensure you keep your skin hydrated and protected with at least SPF30 (we recommend sk:n SPF 30) and avoid the sun where possible. Avoid sweating, exercising, hot baths or showers, scrubbing, picking or rubbing, which could lead to scarring. Your practitioner will give you the advice you need. We can also recommend a homecare treatment programme so you gain maximum results.
How many Spectra treatments will I need?
This depends on the results you want to see. Some people choose to have this treatment every month to maintain their results. We recommend between 5-10 treatments spaced at between two and four weeks apart.
Can a spectra laser peel treat melasma?
Yes, the Spectra laser peel can remove the upper layer of skin where there may be dark spots. It will then encourage healthy cell renewal and collagen production.
Is this treatment suitable for acne?
Yes, this can be a very effective treatment for mild to moderate acne and acne scarring. Talk to your practitioner about which treatment is best for your skin. The suitability may depend on the severity of your acne, and the type of acne scars.
